How Do YOU Nurture Your Creativity?
If you’re a parent, a caregiver, or have a demanding job that leaves you tired and out of time at the end of the day, how do you find the time and energy to stay creative?
I struggled with this issue after becoming a mom and I know I’m not the only one who has. Creating is such a huge part of who I am, or at least who I was before my role as a parent took center stage. But the truth is, I’m a better parent and a better example to my daughter when I’m taking care of my WHOLE self, and that means nourishing the creativity that brings me so much joy.
If you’re in a similar position and you want to develop a sustainable creative practice, this space is for you. Let’s chat about building realistic routines, practicing healthy productivity, prioritizing rest, finding artistic inspiration, and using all the tools available to awaken our imaginations and talents.
Want a peek behind the curtain?
I drink a lot of tea; read, watch, and write way too much sci-fi and fantasy; spend work breaks petting and throwing a tennis ball for my Aussie-mix pup; and go adventuring with my sweet, curious, and brave little hobbit.
But what do I actually do?
For the last two decades, I’ve been working in different corners of the entertainment industry. My core as a performer, writer, and organizer has led me to some amazing opportunities, like when I was on the board of directors and a programmer of a genre film festival, or when I hosted a YouTube show and interviewed other creatives. Organizing events in the Austin entertainment scene is some of my favorite work.
When it comes to writing fiction, most of my stories are in science fiction universes or fantastical realms. I write with a touch of darkness, or at least dark humor, to satisfy my twisted soul. But I tone all that down when I work to help others find their own voice in artist bios, ticket sales pages for events, company profiles and staff bios, press releases, social media post captions, and brand blogs. Outside of entertainment, I’ve written for clients in SaaS, small business marketing, beauty, and travel.
